AAAS + U = Δ

AAAS is here – bringing educational infrastructure to the developing world.

As a part of our larger mission of advancing science and serving society, AAAS is committed to advancing international cooperation in science. For the past several years, AAAS has been building relationships with governments throughout the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

Beginning in 2007, with a visit to Rwanda by former AAAS President David Baltimore, AAAS has worked to extend these international outreach efforts to African nations.

Rwandans have worked hard to escape their troubled past, investing heavily in science and technology as a means of building a modern, economically prosperous country. In 2008, President Kagame described his belief in the transformative power of science and technology in a plenary address at the AAAS Annual Meeting .

A subsequent visit to Rwanda by AAAS staff members led to a commitment by AAAS to work with Rwandan education officials on a math and science curriculum. Resources include materials from AAAS programs such as the Project 2061 Atlas of Science Literacy, Science NetLinks, and digital libraries of Science.

This work continues today, and the ties between AAAS and Rwanda have grown deeper with Romain Murenzi, formerly Rwanda's minister of Science, Technology and Scientific Research, joining AAAS as a AAAS Senior Scholar.

As a AAAS member, your dues help to support these efforts to make the benefits of science and technology available to all people. If you are not yet a member, join us .
